Folk Musical Instruments - Percussion

These instruments are made up of metal and are played by striking against each other or by a beater. It is classified as :

Jhanjh (Cymbal)

  • A round piece of metal with a diameter of 8 to 16 finger length is known as Jhanjh.
  • It consists of a thin, rounded plates made up of various alloys such as tin and copper.
  • A hole is drilled at the centre of the cymbal which is used for tying straps so that it can be held in the hands for playing.
  • In some regions, it is also known as khartal.
